Indiana Michigan Power is warning customers to be cautious after an increase in scam attempts.
They say just through June of this year they’ve already received 240 reports of scam attempts targeting customers.
This is a big increase from 2023, where a total of only 165 scams were reported during the whole year. I&M wants customers to be aware of common scams taking place.
They say if you get a call asking to confirm personal or financial information, to hang up and report it.
They say they will never call asking you for this information nor will they call threatening to disconnect service if a payment is not made.
And, I&M will never ask for payment using a prepaid debit card or gift card.
They also say some scammers may appear in person, but I&M employees see carry an employee identification card, which you should request to see.
