What does the Biden decision mean for Gov. Whitmer?

Many are wondering what the President’s withdrawal from the race means for Michigan’s Governor.

Governor Whitmer’s name appears on every list of possible presidential candidates for the Democrats, and has been since the race began. Whitmer has, however, has been steadfast all along in denying any interest in replacing Biden and in saying that she would not seek the office if the incumbent dropped out of the race, which he did Sunday afternoon.

In a statement on X, Whitmer praised Biden as “a great public servant” whose work would go down in history, and said her job in this election will remain the same: “Doing everything I can to elect Democrats and stop Donald Trump,” to whom she referred as “a convicted felon.”
