Boating in Michigan may be more dangerous than you expected.

A new study ranked Michigan as the seventh most dangerous state for recreational boating.

With a 36% increase in annual economic activity in recreational boating, research shows an increase in fatal accidents. According to the study, the most dangerous state for recreational boating is Alaska, with 69% of accidents resulting in a fatal outcome.

Rhode Island had the lowest rate of fatal accidents, coming in at 3%.

But, Michigan showed 20 of 82 accidents were fatal, meaning about 1 in 4 accidents resulted in a fatality.
