Shortly before 12 a.m. on Thursday, July 4, companies were dispatched to the 700 block of Johnson Street for a fire at a one story home.

Crews found fire on the exterior extending into the attic. They began attacking the fire and opening up the attic space where heavy flames was found. They got the fire under control in about 10 minutes. There were injuries were reported.

Around 2.m. crews were sent to the area of Bertrand and Huey Streets for a fire. This time, it was a vacant two-story house with heavy fire throughout the interior. Due to poor structural integrity from a previous fire that happened last year and heavy current fire conditions, crews took a defensive strategy.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of both fires are currently under investigation.
