Officials in Michigan are considering expanding access for more e-bikes on state trails.
Current Michigan State Park policies bans electric bikes from some dirt and paved bike trails. Bridge Michigan reports that officials have found no evidence that e-bikes cause damage to bike trails, and the DNR is proposing a change that would open 3,000 miles of paths in Michigan to those riders. That’s a possibility that has divided the bicyclist community, and a change could come as early as next month.
A DNR poll shared at a meeting on Thursday showed 54% of 6,000 respondents supported the change in policy, with 41% opposed.
