One arrested in connection with deadly South Bend shooting

A suspect has been arrested in connection with a shooting that killed one woman and wounded two others in South Bend.
It was just before 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 20, when South Bend Police were called to the 500 block of Parry Street on the report of shots fired.
Upon arrival, officers located a female victim, Jasmine Swanson, 28, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Swanson was later pronounced dead.
As officers were investigating, they were advised that two additional female victims with apparent gunshot wounds arrived at the hospital from the same scene.
Through an investigation by the South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit, Rya Barnes, 22, was identified as a suspect.
Barnes was arrested Thursday afternoon on multiple preliminary charges and was transported to the St. Joseph County Jail, where she awaits a formal charging decision from the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.
