New apartments have opened in downtown South Bend.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for the 300 East apartments on LaSalle Avenue.
This building is also home to the East Race Market, a controversial topic in the city.
The building’s owner says this is a significant addition to South Bend’s East Bank neighborhood.
David Matthews, founder of Matthews LLC, stated, “This housing is unlike any other in South Bend. It’s mid-rise construction similar to what you might find in a 30 to 40-story building in Chicago, but here it’s a 10-story building.”

Why would anybody want to live in some nice safe apartments built by Matthews when they can live in the readily combustible housing units owned or operated by the South Bend Housing Authority? Or the Rabbi Shulman building? Tonya Robinson and the Democratic machine working for you.
