The South Bend Police Department posted on Facebook over the weekend to warn people of a potential scam.

This weekend, people have been spotted carrying signs asking for money to fund a child’s funeral at intersections around St. Joseph County.

People carrying the signs have been spotted near University Park Mall, the intersection of Main Street and Edison Lakes, and along Ironwood Road.

Similar signs have been spotted in other cities across the county.

The signs have the word “funeral” written at the top with a picture of a young child.

“There have been no vehicle crashes in our area that have claimed the life of a 9-year-old boy named Robi. If a serious or fatal crash occurs in our county, St. Joseph County FACT would respond, investigate, and issue a press release. FACT is very good about releasing fatal crash details, including the names of victims, in a timely fashion,” says the South Bend Police Department Facebook post.
