The Benton Township Police Chief has a new contract.

On Tuesday, the Township Board of Trustees approved a contract with a salary of 97 thousand dollars, plus benefits, that runs through the end of 2027.

WSJM reports that Chief Abrams was hired a year ago but the agreement was held up in arbitration after another candidate filed a grievance. Abrams is a former sergeant with the township police department who seeks to address gun violence and opioid abuse in the community.
