The Winona Lake Police Department is exploring the possibility of integrating electric vehicles, thanks to a substantial grant opportunity of nearly $1.5 million provided by the Indiana Office of Energy Development.
Police leaders say they will file a petition for funds to acquire three electric vehicles, with an estimated combined value exceeding $200,000.
The Winona Lake police chief underscores that these vehicles would be entirely financed through the grant, alleviating any financial burden on taxpayers.
The proposed electric vehicles would serve as replacements for the department’s existing cars, a move that aligns with their anticipated replacement schedule in the coming years.
