I&M has been given approval to build what would be their largest solar farm to date.

It would be a solar power plant near Montpelier, Indiana, and would serve both Indiana and Michigan. Up to 73,500 homes would benefit from the solar power plant at Lake Trout.

The Michigan Public Service Commission approved the plan this week, which is aimed at helping I&M and AEP reach their goal of net zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2045. Lake Trout could begin generating power by 2026.

The Michigan commission has previously approved plans for three additional solar plants in Northern Indiana, including the Elkhart County Plant, and Mayapple in Pulaski County.
