US Army Corps: It’s one of most dangerous times of year to be on piers

Friday’s weather forecast calls for temperatures in the mid-50s and breezy conditions, but if you’re thinking of taking a rare December stroll on one of the piers along the Lake Michigan Shoreline, think twice.

The US Army Corps of Engineers says this is one of the most dangerous times to be on the pier structures. If you happen to fall into the lake, you’ll have about a minute before the temperature becomes dangerous to you.

WSJM reports that objects under the water aren’t as visible on the windy days, and anyone who falls into the lake can be hurt if they hit them.

Also, as winter approaches, remember no ice is safe ice, and you should stay off Lake Michigan when the ice forms. Learn more at www.RespectThePower.org.
