Electric, hybrid vehicle owners to pay more for registration fees

The Indiana Department of Transportation says Hoosiers who own electric and hybrid vehicles will pay a lot more for their annual registration fees starting in January.

INDOT says it’s due to a projected four-to-five-percent decrease in gasoline consumption nationally in 2025. Lawmakers say that much of a drop is not sustainable for the state’s Community Crossings Fund that has nearly 60-percent of its funding from the gas tax.

Over 90-percent of the projects that program pays for are roadwork.

Take those incentives and plunk down for that electric vehicle, then get hosed on the backside for increased taxes on operating the vehicle.

Our government is a bipolar mess.
