An earthquake magnitude of 3.6 shook northern Illinois and parts of three other states early on Wednesday.
Some residents were awakened by the tremors and called 911 to report their homes shaking.
The U.S. Geological Survey and police confirmed the news.
The earthquake occurred at around 4:41 a.m. local time and was centered about 0.6 miles south-southeast of Standard, Illinois.
Standard is a town located approximately 100 miles southwest of downtown Chicago.
