Suspect arrested for Friday’s shooting death at Beacon Heights Apartments

A suspect has been arrested and charged in a shooting that claimed the life of a South Bend woman.

On Friday, Nov. 3, South Bend Police responded to the 3400 block of Curtiss Drive, at Beacon Heights Apartments, to investigate a possible shooting.

Upon arrival, they located 26-year-old Khalyiah Bell, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her autopsy was performed on Saturday in Kalamazoo.

Through an investigation and the processing of evidence by the South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit, 22-year-old Juwan Dockery was identified as a suspect.

On Saturday, the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office charged Dockery with murder for his role in Bell’s death.

He’s currently being held at the St. Joseph County Jail.
