Woman killed, man injured in shooting in Michigan City

A woman died and a man was injured in a shooting while the two were in a parked SUV in Michigan City.

Police arrived at a home on Calumet Avenue where they discovered the victims inside the vehicle.

The woman, Susan Simmons, 58, was found dead in the front passenger seat, while her husband, 60, had multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigation revealed that David “DJ” Wilson Jr. arrived, fired gunshots into the SUV, and then fled the scene. He was arrested shortly after crashing his vehicle in the 3200 block of Dody Avenue. During his arrest, a stolen handgun was found in his possession, and the vehicle he was driving had been reported stolen.

Wilson faces charges including murder, attempted murder, aggravated battery, criminal confinement, possession of a firearm as a serious violent felon, criminal recklessness, firearm theft, auto theft, and for driving with a suspended license.

He is currently in custody without bond.
