Alcohol and speed may be factors that led to a crash that happened just after 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sep. 23, at the intersection of County Road 2 and County Road 25.

Elkhart County Sheriff’s deputies say the 51-year-old driver, from White Pigeon,  veered off the road and collided with a tree.

The pick-up truck he was driving sustained heavy front-end damage, though the driver suffered just minor abrasions and complained of pain. He was taken to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment.

The driver was cited for driving at a speed deemed too fast for the road conditions and for having an open alcoholic beverage while operating the vehicle.
