Man found shot, killed inside home on South 5th Street in Elkhart

The Elkhart County Homicide Unit is actively investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early this morning in the 500 block of S. 5th St, Elkhart.

It was just before 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sep. 21, when the Elkhart City 911 Communications Center received 911 calls reporting the sounds about multiple shots fired.

Elkhart City Police Department officers dispatched to the area of S 4th St and Harrison St, and arrived shortly thereafter.

During the investigation, officers located a scene in the 500 block of S 5th Street and a deceased adult male with apparent gunshot wound(s) inside a residence there.

The Elkhart County Homicide Unit was activated, per protocol, and is handling the investigation. At this time the deceased male’s identity is being withheld, pending family notification.
