Approximately 10:00 on Saturday, Sep. 2, St. Joseph County Police received a dispatch of a male victim with self-inflicted gunshot to the head. The caller was uncooperative with dispatch and would not provide their information, any details, nor provide an address for the location of victim. Dispatch was able to learn that the caller was near Darden Road west of State Road 933.

After searching the area for approximately 15 minutes, police found a shooting victim through the window of a home in the 20000 block of Darden Road in Clay Township.

Police entered the home and discovered a female with a gunshot to the head, not a male as reported by 911 caller. Medics immediately transported the female to the Emergency Room, where she died of her wound a short time later.

One male, believed to be the 911 caller, was also found on scene and was detained for questioning.

At this time no arrests have been made and detectives are still investigating the shooting.

No determinations have been made regarding the origin of the fatal gun shot.
