13-year-old accused of stealing vehicle, leading police on chase

A 13-year-old has been accused of leading police on a chase in a stolen vehicle.

Shortly before 1 a.m. on Saturday, the Elkhart Police Department was notified of a woman’s car being taken from a parking lot.

Around 4:30 a.m., an officer spotted the vehicle on 2nd street and pulled the driver over.

However, when he told the driver to shut the vehicle off, the 13-year-old was said to have drove away.

The chase ended after the driver lost control and crashed into a business on Fulton Street.

According to ABC 57, he was taken to the hospital for minor injuries, and the Juvenile Detention Center was called.
