Man arrested after allegedly punching woman in throat in self-defense

A man was arrested after allegedly punching a woman in the throat in self-defense on Valentine’s Day.
That woman ended up in the hospital with serious injuries.
Bob Stockbridge was arrested on one count of domestic battery resulting in serious bodily injury and one count of domestic battery committed in the presence of a child under 16.
South Bend Police officers responded to a domestic dispute call on South Matthews Lane around 8:15 p.m.
When they arrived, they found a woman crawling in the front yard, saying she couldn’t breathe while bleeding from her mouth.
According to ABC 57, Stockbridge was the original 911 caller.
He reportedly told police he called because the woman attacked him, and that he defended himself by punching her in the throat.
Stockbridge reportedly told police that he didn’t use much force when he punched the woman.
The woman was intubated to help her breathe, and the tube was removed two days later.
Stockbridge is being held at the St. Joseph County Jail on a $5 thousand bond. ​
