A Portage man accused of killing his mother with a sledgehammer has been found competent to stand trial.
The Porter Superior Court Judge has set a Nov. 30 trial date for Charles Trumble, who refused to be sworn in for the hearing, saying his religion does not allow that.
Trumble is accused of murdering his mother Dixie, 91, in February.
Trumble told police he killed her because “he is about to be exposed for committing awful crimes” and wanted to shield her from the information.
