A vehicle plunged into the water over the weekend, submerging it and its occupants in 16 feet of water near Dowagiac.

It happened Saturday morning on M-152 just north of Karl Street in Dowagiac. ABC 57 reports that the only visible portion of the vehicle was the trunk.

A tow truck helped remove the vehicle, but not before scuba divers tried to get to the passenger compartment. Due to the vehicle’s positioning and low visibility, the decision was made to tow the vehicle out of the water.

An unknown amount of people in the vehicle were taken to a local hospital by ambulance, West Michigan Air Care, and Memorial Med Flight. Their conditions aren’t known.
