A standoff in Goshen ended with a Chicago man behind bars.

Police arrived to the Westgate Manor apartment complex at about 6 p.m. Sunday after getting word of a domestic dispute taking place.

The suspect allegedly barricaded the only door to the apartment and refused to comply or come out for officers.

At around 1:20 a.m. Monday, ABC 57 reports that police tossed a smoke canister into the apartment, which led to 45-year-old Erick Burton coming out of the apartment and complying with officers.

Burton is charged with domestic battery, intimidation, criminal confinement, and interference with reporting a crime. He’s in Elkhart County Jail. The victim was able to escape the apartment during the standoff and was treated for minor injuries.
