Trial delayed for man accused of beating former Goshen City Councilman to death

A Goshen man received two bits of bad news during his court appearance Thursday.

First, 22-year-old Cody Garman’s trial date will no longer be on September 18, partly due to a busy court schedule that day. But the Elkhart Truth is reporting that Garman was also told that a potential plea deal in the case is also being thrown out.

Garman is accused of attacking former Goshen City Councilman David Swartley and leaving him for dead.

Trials that are more likely to happen on September 18 are 21-year-old Joemongee White, who’s accused of killing Brandon Jackson during a robbery attempt, and 18-year-old Jarrod Spigutz, who’s accused of killing 20-year-old Jared Foltz in the parking lot of an Elkhart Menards.
