LaPorte County officers looking for hit and run driver

A New Carlisle man riding a bicycle is recovering from critical injuries after being hit by what he describes as a “green truck.”

The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office says the 56-year-old man was hit at about 7:30 a.m. Central time Saturday on eastbound S.R. 2 about a mile east of LaPorte city limits.

The bicyclist was knocked “some distance” from his vehicle and had to be flown to Memorial Hospital in South Bend. Traffic on S.R. 2 was blocked while the investigation into the crash continued.

Anyone with information or that may have witness the crash is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 219-326-7700.
