Wind creates headaches in Berrien County and Michiana

(95.3 MNC)

It isn’t the snow, but the wind that’s causing the biggest headaches Thursday.

While the rest of the listening area is under a Wind Advisory until 8 p.m. Thursday, fierce winds in Berrien County have caused the National Weather Service to declare that county under a High Wind Warning until 8 p.m. Thursday, as well as a Lakeshore Flood Warning until 2 a.m. Friday.

The Coast Guard says to avoid piers, jetties and rocks along the lakeshore, as large waves can drag you into the cold water in seconds.

The winds, gusting as high as 60 miles per hour, are causing other issues: Hundreds of power outages were reported Thursday morning northeast of New Buffalo.
