Daylight Saving Time 2015: As clocks change, test your smoke detector

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana’s fire marshal says this weekend’s time-change is a good time for Hoosiers to change their smoke alarms’ batteries.

Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, when residents are supposed to turn their clocks back one hour.

State Fire Marshal Jim Greeson says Hoosiers should use that occasion to also put fresh batteries in their smoke alarms now that winter is near.

He says working smoke alarms are proven life-savers that provide precious time for people to escape fires.

Greeson says homes and apartments should have at least one working smoke detector, preferably near sleeping areas. Multi-level homes should have at least one smoke detector on each floor.

Many fire stations and groups provide free smoke detectors to low-income families, seniors and others who need the alarms.
