Indiana Dunes State Park to band hummingbirds for research

CHESTERTON, Ind. (AP) — Scientists will be banding hummingbirds for research purposes at Indiana Dunes State Park next week.

Indiana Department of Natural Resources officials say licensed hummingbird bander Allen Chartier will demonstrate banding on Aug. 8. That morning he’ll be setting hummingbird traps at the park’s nature center feeders. Then he’ll band the birds.

Visitors are welcome to watch.

Chartier also plans an afternoon presentation on ruby-throated hummingbirds and tips for attracting them. He’ll also discuss tips for hummingbird feeders, gardening and his research.
