Child struck and killed by vehicle in downtown South Bend identified

An 11-year-old boy walking to school along South Michigan Street in South Bend with his 8-year-old brother was struck by a vehicle and killed.

The collision happened around 7 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 23.

The crash shut down Michigan Street from Monroe to South for several hours while police conducted their investigation, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at ABC 57.

The victim was identified as Tristian Martice Moore. Moore was taken to the hospital where he died. His brother was not injured.

Moore attended Success Academy in South Bend, according to a GoFundMe account set up by relatives collecting donations for the boy’s funeral.

The 54-year-old man who was driving the vehicle that struck Moore has been cooperating with police, according to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.
