Suburban Indianapolis boy shoots dad in wrist after arguing

GREENWOOD, Ind. (AP) — Authorities say a 7-year-old suburban Indianapolis boy upset over having to spend the weekend with his father loaded a gun and shot the man in the wrist.

The Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office says the Greenwood boy faces a juvenile charge of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, and his parents have both been charged with neglect.

It says that after the boy and his father argued Sunday, the boy got an unsecured handgun, loaded it and shot the man. Other children were also in the home when the shooting happened.

The gun belonged to the boy’s mother.

Police said the floor of the children’s bedroom was covered with clothes and trash, and firearms were stored in unlocked drawers that children could access easily.
