Niles Township woman struck and killed by semi truck

NILES TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say a 71-year-old woman has been fatally struck in southwestern Michigan by a semi-truck that was hauling mail to Indiana.

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department says Connie Brown was crossing a five-lane roadway on Tuesday night in Niles Township when she was hit by the truck, which was driven by a 44-year-old man from the Detroit suburb of Roseville.

The department says the man was driving for Detroit-based George Campbell & Sons and the truck was carrying U.S. mail to South Bend from Detroit.

According to investigators, Brown was wearing dark-colored clothing and there were no street lights in the immediate area. The crash is under investigation.
