It’s been there for a long time and starting Friday morning, people can see the historic South Haven lighthouse in its new glory.

The Historical Association of South Haven says the new exterior of the lighthouse will be unveiled during a ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Friday.

In early September, crews removed 10 coats of red paint from the lighthouse. They then made some much-needed repairs, then coated it once again with 52 gallons of red paint.

The “Save The Light” initiative raised $240,000 for the restoration project. Then, the Michigan Lighthouse Assistance Program kicked in a $60,000 grant.

The formal re-dedication of the lighthouse will take place in the spring, according to the Historical Association of South Haven.
