Man found shot, killed on Fassnacht Avenue in South Bend identified

A man was shot and killed in South Bend on Friday afternoon, June 24.

Around 3 p.m., South Bend Police officers were sent to  the 1400 block of Fassnacht Avenue after ShotSpotter detected gunshots.

On arrival, police found a man dead inside a vehicle at the intersection of Fassnatch Avenue and Studebaker Street, ABC 57 reported. The victim was identified as Bethel D. Smallwood, 33.

St. Joseph County Metro Homicide is now investigating the shooting.

No arrests have been made as of late Friday night.

On Sunday, the forensic pathologist in Kalamazoo ruled Smallwood’s manner and cause of death to be homicide, due to a gunshot wound.
