More than 2,000 Indiana Michigan Power customers are waking up in the dark Wednesday morning, June 15, after heavy thunderstorms moved through the area.

As of 7:20 a.m., I&M reported the following outages:

  • St. Joseph County — 163
  • Elkhart County — 109
  • Berrien County, Mich. — 1,027
  • St. Joseph County, Mich. — 917

Some traffic signals around Michiana may be flashing red or otherwise not working because of the power outages. Drivers are encouraged to be cautious and to treat intersections without a functioning traffic light as an all-way stop.

Crews are working on restoring power, but it’s not clear when the company expects the work to be complete.
